Identification & Appearance

Tsessebe are chestnut brown with a black face and tail tuft, greyish or bluish-black forelegs and thighs, brownish-yellow lower hind legs and a white belly. Both sexes carry horns, set so that the gap between them widens toward the tips and gives a crescent-shaped outline. They have the hartebeest's high-shouldered build in a sleeker form.

Range & Habitat

Behavior & Sign

Tsessebe are social: cows live in herds of six to ten with their young, and bulls put out of the herd at a year old band together in bachelor groups.
